It’s all happening at the City Ground. Lewis Dunk has got a second yellow and Forest have a penalty… which Gibbs-White scores! This is gonna go down to the wire.
RED CARD! Newcastle 3-1 Chelsea (James 74)
Chelsea are out of it now – Reece James has received his second yellow and Newcastle are surely taking three points here. It’s an odd decision from James, pulling back Anthony Gordon for an obvious yellow when he was already in the book.
GOAL! Luton 1-1 Crystal Palace (Olise 74)
Michael Olise equalises! It’s a worldie, this. Olise skips down the right wing, at serious pace, cuts and jinks into the box, and then curls the ball past the keeper’s right. Gorgeous.

Luton take the lead! Teden Mengi finds the ball from a corner and slots into the bottom left corner.

Joao Pedro steps up for a penalty and scores to give Brighton further breathing space.
GOAL! Newcastle 3-1 Chelsea (Joelinton 61)

Anthony Gordon cuts in from the left, whips in a cross and Jamaal Lascelles finds himself free for a thumping header into the net.

GOAL! Burnley 1-0 West Ham (Rodriguez 48)
Jay Rodriguez slots in to give Burnley the perfect start to the second half.
We’re back underway in the Prem… and Burnley have a penalty against West Ham!
Bruce Jackson writes in: “Probably worth pointing out that Morecambe lost their manager at the beginning of the week. They’re having a pretty rough couple of seasons, with managers coming and going amid club takeover shenanigans. It would be nice if some super-rich film star could step in and flood the club with cash, a la Wrexham.”
Wrexham are 3-0 up against Morecambe at half-time.

Half-time in the Premier League
GOAL! Nottingham Forest 1-2 Brighton (Joao Pedro 45+2)
A terrific header from Joao Pedro, from a Pascal Gross cross, gives Brighton the lead!
GOAL! Sheffield United 0-2 Bournemouth (Kluivert 45+3)
Big, big goal just before the half-time whistle. Justin Kluivert doubles Bournemouth’s lead after nicking the ball off Wes Foderingham outside the box – that’s a mare for the Sheffield United keeper, whose was all over the place and easily brushed aside by Kluivert, who slotted into an empty net from the right side of the box.
Newcastle 1-1 Chelsea: Still level at St James’ Park, where Joelinton really should’ve scored earlier in the game, heading wide from a corner when he had no one on him.
Plymouth are 2-0 up in the Championship against Sunderland, with Finn Azaz and Morgan Whittaker grabbing the goals.
Wrexham are having a good time against Morecambe – they’re 3-0 up inside 40 minutes.
“Hi Taha ( predictive wanted me to call you Tasha, does that happen a lot?),” writes Oli Haill. All the time, all the time.
“You requested thoughts/song requests and one I have is that next Friday is December and today is the first frosty day of the season – what better way to celebrate both those things and Aaron Ramsey’s chance to grab his chance between the sticks later than by playing Keeping The Dream Alive by Freiheit. It also seems like an apt football song in many ways I’m too hungover to elaborate on. Up the Arsenal!”
Ramsey? That’d be a serious surprise from Mikel Arteta.
Just in case you missed it: Barcelona were forced to settle for a point against Rayo Vallecano, the final score 1-1. They stay third in the table.
The latest from the Championship: Swansea are 2-0 up against Hull, with Jamie Paterson and Jerry Yates the goalscorers.
GOAL! Nottingham Forest 1-1 Brighton (Ferguson 26)
Evan Ferguson equalises for Brighton with a lovely, curled finish into the bottom right corner from the edge of the box. Classy, classy finish.
GOAL! Newcastle 1-1 Chelsea (Sterling 23)
Raheem Sterling smacks in a free-kick from just outside the D, into the top left corner. That’s a stunner! Nick Pope doesn’t even bother diving for it.
Dortmund 3-2 Monchengladbach: What a comeback! It’s half-time and Dortmund have come back from 2-0 down to take the lead, with England U21 international Jamie Bynoe-Gittens scoring the third.
GOAL! Newcastle 1-0 Chelsea (Isak 12)
Lewis Miley takes out the entire Chelsea backline with a neat pass into the box, and Alexander Isak finds himself one-on-one – he does what he does. It was a terrific bit of work from the 17-year-old midfielder, who fooled a load of blue shirts by shaping up to shoot from the edge of the D before needling the ball through to Isak.
GOAL! Sheffield United 0-1 Bournemouth (Tavernier 12)
It’s the visitors who are smiling first – Marcus Tavernier slots past the keeper from inside the box.
Over in League One, Blackpool have taken the lead against top-of-the-table Portsmouth, Owen Dale the goalscorer.
Dortmund 2-2 Monchengladbach: This looks a real humdinger in the Bundesliga. Dortmund were 2-0 down after 28 minutes – five minutes later they’re level following goals from Sabitzer and Niclas Füllkrug.
GOAL! Nottingham Forest 1-0 Brighton (Elanga 3)
Brighton aren’t having much fun at the moment are they? They’re already a goal down, with Anthony Elanga opening the scoring with a header. Morgan Gibbs-White crossed in from the right, and Elanga popped up from the other wing to apply the crucial touch.
Kick off in the Premier League!
We’re underway in the 3pm games. Let’s play!
Plenty happening in the Dortmund game. Kouadio Koné doubled Monchengladbach’s lead before Marcel Sabitzer got one back for Dortmund. It’s 2-1 to Monchengladbach and we’re only a half hour into the piece.
The latest from Europe: Barcelona have equalised in the 82nd minute against Rayo Vallecano thanks to an own goal from Florian Lejeune. Leverkusen have bagged an early goal against Bremen, while Dortmund are 1-0 down against Monchengladbach.
Steve Johnson writes in: “As a Chelsea fan, I’m not sure what to expect next, so I tried to think of a single line which would cover all your requests: the song ‘(just) bring it on home to me’ by Eddie Floyd seems to fit… (my wife is Christmas shopping right now, so I’m stretching the love life advice a bit…)”
Thanks for the recommendation, Steve – I’ll give it a listen now. Nicolas Jackson to bring home the three points today?
FULL TIME: Manchester City 1-1 Liverpool
All wrapped up at the Etihad, where Liverpool fought back to nick a point – a few words exchanged between Darwin Núñez and Pep Guardiola after the final whistle, dunno what that’s about.
Sheffield United v Bournemouth team news
Nottingham Forest v Brighton team news
Luton v Crystal Palace team news
Newcastle v Chelsea team news
Burnley v West Ham team news
Paul MacInnes has this story from the City-Liverpool clash.
Over in Spain, Barcelona are trailing against Rayo Vallecano – Unai Lopez has opened the scoring with a staggering strike from well outside the box, latching onto a bouncing ball and sending it into the bottom right corner. What a hit, my son. Nearly half-time in that one.
Barry Glendenning’s keeping tabs on all the action at the Etihad. Liverpool are pressing hard for an equaliser, and Pep’s starting to look a bit nervy.
Preamble
We’re back! Yes, the big one’s still happening, but we’ve got FIVE 3pm kick-offs in the Prem for you. There’s Burnley v West Ham, with the hosts praying for an end to their misery – even after Everton’s points deduction, they’re at the bottom of the pile. Luton, still waiting for a joyous three-point day at Kenilworth Road this season, have Crystal Palace coming over. Chelsea – who have been thoroughly watchable of late – head to Newcastle, and a Blues win will close the gap between the two sides to just one point. Brighton, who haven’t won in the league since September, will have their work cut out at the City Ground – Nottingham Forest remain unbeaten at home this campaign. And finally, there’s a tasty one at the lower end of the table – Sheffield United (18th, 5 points) v Bournemouth (16th, 9 points).
We’ll keep tabs on what’s occurring in Europe, the EFL and all that other stuff too. Drop me a line with your thoughts/queries/song requests/birthday shoutouts/love-life advice/whatever you fancy.
