Chelsea defender Reece James was fined £90,000 and banned for one match after admitting insulting a match official following last month’s defeat to Aston Villa.
The England full-back, who was not in the matchday squad due to injury, was reported for his behavior towards the referee in the tunnel after the game.
The FA said: “The defender admitted using inappropriate, abusive and/or insulting words and behavior towards a match official in the tunnel after the final whistle.”
“An independent regulatory commission has imposed these sanctions following a hearing and its written reasons for doing so will be published at the earliest opportunity.”
James suffered a hamstring injury in training last month and has not featured for Mauricio Pochettino’s side since the home draw against Liverpool on the opening day of the season. Chelsea are hoping James will be fit for their Premier League home game against Arsenal on October 21.
