Will Young fights No. 3 after showing off the city championship form for Durham
“It’s not an easy decision for Kane to miss a test, but we think it’s the right test,” said New Zealand boss Gary Stead. “He has injected from the elbow area to relieve the stimuli he experienced during the bat, and a period of rest and rehabilitation will help him maximize his recovery,” he added.
His injury is not expected to be ruled out in the WTC World Cup final against India, which starts on June 18 at the Ageas Bowl. “The decision has been made in light of the ICC World Cup final in Southampton and we are confident he will be ready for that match,” Stead added.
“I’m sure he’ll be back [for the final]”Latham said.” In our opinion, this is a precautionary measure. We would like him to be available for this game, but obviously we will be watching the final in another week, so for Kane it is to give himself the best opportunity to be perfectly fit and available for that game. A decision was made for him to rest and get it right for what lies ahead.
“He is a great captain. It is well documented that his calm personality and nature in the middle has been vital to this group. He is very calm – he does not go too high, he does not go too low, which I think in recent years for “This team has been great. He is clearly a great leader and we have seen that throughout our captaincy.”
Young prepared for the series by playing in four County Championships for Durham, scoring hundreds of goals in two of the last three seasons. He will bat in No. 3, while Latham and Devon Conway continue to open fire.
“She was here a few weeks earlier [than the rest of the squad] “He played cricket,” Latham said. He had a chance at our house in the summer and it runs for a period that is always chosen, especially in this situation, after this is another exciting opportunity for Will to raise his hand and try to put that performance on the board. “
“This is a case-by-case situation,” he said. “There are eyes on what we will see over the next week, but on the other hand this game is clearly very important to us. We are trained now and then we will take a look at the wicket and have them talk about what’s better tomorrow. “He plays well with XI. We have a great team to choose from.”
While New Zealand thinking has clearly been influenced by the proximity of the WTC final, Latham said the team is not seizing the first chance of winning a series in England for the first time since 1999.
“England’s defeat is higher on our list of priorities [than the WTC final]”We have such a great opportunity to come here and try to play our cricket mark and perform a show that we are proud of,” he said. Yes, the final will be watched in another week, but our focus is only on this game and the next five days.
“Winning away from home is not easy in the world right now, and if we can put a performance on the board that we know we can do, the crossed fingers that give us a good chance of success in these five days.”
