Tom Curry will miss the entire Six Nations and most likely the rest of the season after Sale revealed he will undergo surgery to repair a hip injury.
Curry has been troubled by the problem since he was instrumental in England finishing third at the recent World Cup and a visit to a specialist confirmed that freeing the joint was the only option.
The 25-year-old winger, who will automatically be selected for England if he is fit, will undergo the operation the week after next.
Alex Sanderson, Rugby’s sales director, said: “Tom has been back in London for further extensive moving x-rays with another consultant and this is best for him in the short term.”
