preamble
If the Premier League is the food of love, play no matter, we’re getting an excess of it whether we like it or not. An exciting three-course game week, with all ten games broadcast live in the UK, ends with today’s dessert: Everton v Newcastle and Tottenham v West Ham.
All four teams have a clear incentive to win tonight. Everton can get out of the bottom three; Newcastle can move up to fifth place. Spurs won’t get above fifth place, their current position, but a win would see them level on points with mini-crisis club Manchester City. And West Ham…okay, West Ham will definitely finish the evening in ninth place, but beating the hated Spurs is an end in itself.
The games are staggered: Everton v Newcastle starts at 7.30pm and Spurs v West Ham at 8.15pm. Tonight is the Guardian Sport Christmas party You’re on your own, you can follow the live results page, there’s a pint of Lagunitas with my name on it Let’s show them what they’re missing, shall we? Uh?
Oh.
