Calgary Flames forward Andrew Mangiapane will hold a cross-review hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety on Sunday.
Mangiapane was given a match penalty on Saturday evening for intent to injure and was subsequently excluded from the game. Since he was assessed a match penalty, the Flames forward had to face a hearing before the Department of Player Safety.
The incident occurred midway through the first period when Seattle Kraken forward Jared McCann blocked a shot from Mangiapane and was still on the ice when Mangiapane delivered a brutal counterpunch to the back of his neck.
McCann left the ice briefly, but returned to the bench before the end of the period.
