Sources – USC commit Malachi Nelson, 2023 recruit, to attend Texas A&M.

Five-star USC commit Malachi Nelson will visit Texas A&M this weekend, just days after being edged out by Arch Manning in ESPN’s 2023 player rankings, sources confirmed to ESPN on Thursday night.

Nelson, a 6-foot-1 quarterback from Los Alamitos High School in Los Alamitos, Calif., informed USC head coach Lincoln Riley and the program that he would visit College Station in Texas, sources said. Under the leadership of head coach Jimbo Fisher, the Aggies put together the best recruiting class in 2022.

Nelson flipped his commitment from Oklahoma to USC in November after the Trojans loaned Riley away from the Sooners to be USC’s next head coach. The transfer had a ripple effect that resulted in several Oklahoma commitments, including Nelson, who immediately committed to Riley and USC.

As a source close to Nelson described the move soon after, Nelson had more faith in Riley than Oklahoma, which made the flip more or less a formality.

Despite what appears to be a surprise visit to Texas A&M this week, Nelson remains officially committed to the Trojans and Riley.

If it stays that way, Nelson will lead Riley’s first full recruiting class next year and arrive on campus as the Trojans’ possible quarterback of the future.

Nelson’s visit was first reported by TexAgs.
