The Predators’ Luke Schenn is out four to six weeks with a lower-body injury

Nashville Predators defender Luke Schenn will miss four to six weeks with a lower-body injury, the team announced Wednesday.

Schenn hasn’t played since the season opener last Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Schenn finished last season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, who acquired the veteran blue-liner in a deal with the Vancouver Canucks.

The Predators signed Schenn to a three-year, $8.25 million contract in the offseason.

It represented a significant promotion for the blue-liner, whose supporting role in Tampa Bay during the Lightning’s back-to-back Stanley Cup championships and strong performances with the Vancouver Canucks and Maple Leafs last season led to his retiring career could revive. The 33-year-old jumped up the league after his first stint in Toronto and his time in Philadelphia, spending the last five years on short-term contracts worth less than $1 million per year.

The Maple Leafs selected Schenn fifth overall in the 2008 NHL Draft.
