Eubank Jr’s trainer accused of carrying gun at Manchester Airport | boxing


A boxing trainer has been accused of possession of a firearm while preparing to board a flight at Manchester Airport.

Brian McIntyre appeared at Stockport Magistrates’ Court on Monday after the gun was allegedly found in checked luggage, Greater Manchester Police said. The 53-year-old was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Manchester Crown Court on October 9.

McIntyre is the trainer of Chris Eubank Junior and was in the UK for his fight with Liam Smith. Eubank brought in McIntyre as his new coach and changed his training regimen in preparation for the competition.

A statement from Greater Manchester Police said: “At around 10.45am on Sunday 3 September 2023, officers were called to reports that airport staff at Manchester Airport may have found a firearm in checked baggage.

“Following the initial inspection by security personnel, GMP officers were on site and the firearm was confiscated. A 53-year-old man was subsequently arrested for possession of a firearm and taken into custody for further questioning.

“Brian McIntyre of the United States of America has been charged with possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition for an uncertified firearm.”
