Arsenal are unlikely to complete their transfer business in January, with Mikel Arteta expressing frustration at his inability to add to his squad.
Recent results have seen them slip from the top of the table, but with no club clearly coming out on top, the London club remain in the hunt for the title.
A consistent goalscorer might have been the person they would have sought, with Gabriel Jesus lacking consistency and Eddie Nketiah yet to establish himself as a regular starter, but financial constraints left the club running out of options.
But strange things can happen at the end of the window – could the right player still be available?
Here are some of the latest Arsenal transfer rumours.
Ivan Toney
Toney, a long-standing target of the club, has returned to action for Brentford after serving his eight-month betting ban. The striker averages a goal in every other Premier League game and has expressed a desire to prove himself at a “top club”.
However, Brentford are unlikely to want the centre-forward to leave without a sizeable transfer fee. The Independents Miguel Delaney reports that a price tag of £100m has been set for Toney and Arsenal may express their interest again in the summer.
Karim Benzema
Experienced French striker Benzema is being offered to some top European clubs after joining Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad last summer. The former Real Madrid player has also been linked with Chelsea. However, it appears he could remain in the Saudi Pro League, with a move to Al-Ittihad and a reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo mentioned as possibilities.
Victor Osimhen
After helping Napoli to the Serie A title last season, club president Aurelio De Laurentiis said Osimhen would leave Napoli in the summer. Reports from Italy suggest Arsenal have made contact and could pursue a deal, although they will face significant competition from Real Madrid, PSG and several Premier League rivals for one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers.
Xavi Simons
Arsenal are said to be leading the race for talented Dutch PSG star Xavi Simons, who is on loan at RB Leipzig this season. German branch PICTURE suggest the 20-year-old is also a target for Bayern Munich, while Simons was previously heavily linked with Manchester United.
Bruno Guimaraes
A new midfielder could also be on Mikel Arteta’s wish list as he continues to work on building a potential title-winning team. Newcastle are unlikely to part ways with Bruno Guimaraes, but there are widespread reports of long-standing interest in the Brazilian.
Emile Smith Rowe
Smith Rowe has been lacking game time this season and Arsenal could look to sign the 23-year-old on loan as he looks to return to top form after a serious series of injuries. Both Lazio Rome and RB Leipzig are interested in the possibility of adding the three-time England international to their squad.
Cedric Soares
As for departures, full-back Soares could move to Galatasaray as he was previously linked with Besiktas Mohamed Elneny could also be allowed to leave Arsenal.
