Jannik Sinner secured his first Australian Open title with a thrilling 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Daniil Medvedev. Sinner had to fight hard for victory and gradually turned his fortunes around after losing the first two sets against Medvedev. After his win, Sinner spoke about how pleased he was to be among the emerging generation of top tennis talent and said his win was “what the sport needs.” He is only the third Italian to win a Grand Slam title – the first since Adriano Panatta in 1976.
