Brentford vs Arsenal LIVE: Premier League result and latest updates as Leandro Trossard gets the nod in the opening game

A few close calls for offside but I think this one will hold up. Things are a little lax from Brentford, pushing forward but not far enough as Bukayo Saka picks out Gabriel Jesus behind the defensive line.

Jesus should score, but he doesn’t manage to beat Mark Flekken, who makes an excellent save but can’t get the ball out of the danger zone. Trossard is on site to put the finishing touches…but was he there? There’s a long VAR check…

And he’s just offside! Trossard’s left foot is directly in front of Gabriel Jesus as the striker heads towards goal and it is canceled out! It remains goalless!

A goal on the other hand would do everyone in the rather bright yellow Arsenal shirts good. Gabriel Jesus has a glimpse of an over, the angle is tight and his attempt is cut up as he bursts into the box.

Oh dear. Aaron Ramsdale makes another mistake by missing his throw and sending the ball flying to his toes. He has to make a hasty retreat towards the goal as Brentford sweep up the stones. They fail to capitalize, but the goalkeeper looks shaken, tossing his bad right arm as the home crowd once again reminds him of his inferiority to on-loan David Raya. Ramsdale needs to restart mentally.

Now Brentford converts an Arsenal corner, William Saliba hits a cross from behind and the ball flies behind. Three Brentford players immediately surround Aaron Ramsdale.

A few whistles and boos as Bukayo Saka prepares to take the shot, but this time he’s quick enough, Gabriel Magalha is the target of the throw but hits the back of the side netting with a clumsy header attempt.

Good work from Gabriel Jesus and even better from Ethan Pinnock. About ten meters from the goal, Jesus gets the ball into his feet and turns cleverly, but Pinnock stays with him and blocks the ball with his foot as the Arsenal striker releases his shot.

Arsenal soon win a corner.

Bryan Mbeumo receives some applause from his manager and the crowd after using clever footwork to free himself from a trap on the right. Brentford wasted the resulting possession, but it was a neat trick from the Cameroon international.

Another chance for Trossard. It’s a beautiful ball from Oleksandr Zinchenko that is sent over Kristoffer Ajer’s head and onto his teammate’s head, but the Belgian fails to find the right connection to deflect the cross into the goal.
