Europe round-up: Ramos saves PSG from a late draw against Rennes | European club football


Kylian Mbappé was kept quiet as Ligue 1 leader, Paris St Germainneeded a penalty from substitute Gonçalo Ramos seven minutes into stoppage time to earn a 1-1 draw at home Rennes on Sunday.

It was Mbappé’s first game since announcing he would leave PSG at the end of the season and the crowd at the Parc des Princes did not jeer him.

Midway through the second half, Ramos came on as a substitute for the league’s 21-goal top scorer Mbappé and scored from the penalty spot after a video review revealed that goalkeeper Steve Mandanda had fouled him. Mandanda made two fine saves for Rennes, who scored through Amine Gouiri’s excellent solo goal in the 33rd minute. The lively striker ran at the defense from around 30 meters away, skipped past Vitinha, put the ball through Danilo’s legs and then hit goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma with the outside of his foot. The draw reduced PSG’s big lead to 11 points over second-placed Brest. The improving Rennes is in seventh place.

In Serie A, Daniele Rugani scored a goal in stoppage time Juventus a much-needed 3-2 win against a brave one Frosinone on Sunday their first league win in five games. Juventus took the lead through Vlahovic in the third minute before Walid Cheddira equalized for Frosinone 11 minutes later and the visitors took the lead in the 27th minute through a goal from Marco Brescianini.

Vlahovic scored again in the 32nd minute as the teams equalized at the break, and just when it looked like Juve would have to settle for a draw, Rugani scored in the 95th minute.

Juventus remains second with 57 points, while Frosinone drops to 16th with 23 points, three points above the relegation zone.

Zito Luvumbo scored late in stoppage time to save the 1-1 draw Cagliari at home Naples, after Victor Osimhen had given the visitors the lead. Defending champions Napoli remain ninth in the table with 37 points, while Cagliari remain in second-to-last place with 20 points.

The Bordeaux Striker Alberth Elis underwent surgery after suffering a serious head injury during a Ligue 2 game against the club Guingamphis club announced on Sunday.

The 28-year-old Honduras international collided with Guingamp defender Donatien Gomis just 40 seconds into the game at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux on Saturday and was then carried away on a stretcher.

Thirteenth-placed Bordeaux, who secured a 1-0 win against Guingamp, said Elis was taken to hospital after the incident and underwent surgery that night. They added that Elis had to be placed in a protective induced coma.

“We will monitor his condition in the hospital over the next few days. At this time it is not possible to comment on Alberth’s vital and functional prognosis,” Bordeaux said in a statement. “The club therefore assumes that it will not be able to provide any new, decisive information in a few days and will not comment further on Alberth’s state of health.”

Bordeaux head coach Albert Riera paid tribute to Elis in his post-match press conference, saying: “My first words go to Alberth. We spoke to the doctor and can’t say anything. He’s in the hospital and we can’t say anything. Victory is for him.”
