Nikolaj Ehlers in a non-contact jersey at Jets training, Cole Perfetti is missing

Nikolaj Ehlers was skating again Winnipeg Jets According to Jets reporter Mitchell Clinton, the main group wore a non-contact jersey in training camp on Thursday.

Ehlers was unable to play in a preseason game for the Jets due to neck spasms. Head coach Rick Bowness indicated that Ehlers likely would not play in Friday’s preseason game against the Ottawa Senators and missed Wednesday’s game against the Calgary Flames.

Ehlers struggled with injuries last season, appearing in just 45 games and scoring 12 goals and 38 points.

Forward Cole Perfetti was not in practice after taking a hit to the head during a late shoulder check from Flames forward Martin Pospisil in the second period.

The 21-year-old Perfetti went to the locker room for further evaluation after the goal and did not return to the bench in the third period.

Flames center Pospisil was given a game misconduct penalty for the hit.

After the game, Jets head coach Rick Bowness had some strong words about the hit.

“It was a cheap shot and the referees got it right,” Bowness told reporters. “It’s good that the referees are taking a look at it. It’s a complete headshot. It’s simply a cheap shot.”

In his second year with the Jets last season, Perfetti scored eight goals and 30 points in 51 games, but suffered an upper-body injury in February that sidelined him for the rest of the year.

On September 20, he was officially removed from injured reserve.
