PWHL Toronto’s Howard suspended one game for cross-checking

The Professional Women’s Hockey League handed Toronto forward Brittany Howard a one-game suspension Thursday for a reviewing incident during Toronto’s 3-0 win over Montreal last Friday.

The infraction occurred late in the second period when Howard hit Montreal defender Catherine Daoust in the back of the head during a scramble in front of the net.

Daoust stood up under his own power, but in obvious pain.

Howard was not penalized for the play. Montreal head coach Kori Cheverie said after the game that the officials told her they didn’t see the hit.

Additionally, Howard and fellow Toronto forward Rebecca Leslie were each fined $250 for taking away an opposing player’s face mask.

This occurred during a scuffle midway through the second period in which six players were penalized, three from each side.
