Sevilla vs Arsenal LIVE: Latest news and lineups of tonight’s Champions League teams

Ramsdale is back in Arsenal training ahead of the UCL trip to Sevilla

After a convincing win over PSV Eindhoven in their Champions League opener, Arsenal appeared to be in control of Group B, but after a shock 2-1 defeat to Lens at the start of October, they still have work to do to secure a place in to secure the knockout round.

Tonight they travel to Spain for the first of two consecutive games against Sevilla, which could decide whether Mikel Arteta’s side progress to the next stage of the competition or not.

The Europa League champions have taken two points from their first two games, but should they beat the Gunners in Spain and at the Emirates, Arteta’s side will be on the verge of an early exit.

Sevilla head coach Diego Alonso replaced Jose Luis Mendilibar during the international break due to Sevilla’s poor home record this year, earning his team a 1-1 home draw against Real Madrid on Saturday. Can he pull off a similar surprise against Arsenal tonight?

Sevilla vs Arsenal

Arsenal are looking to win their first away game in the Champions League since December 2016, when they beat Basel 4-1. They have lost five of their last six away games against Spanish teams, with a win breaking that streak.

However, Sevilla have only won two of their last nine home games in the competition, so Arsenal could be the team Arsenal need to get back to winning ways.

The focus on the goalkeeper battle is strange, says Aaron Ramsdale

Aaron Ramsdale finds it “strange” how much attention is being paid to his battle with David Raya for the Arsenal number one spot – but admits he fears for his future in England if he doesn’t win it.

The 25-year-old signed a new contract last season but was on the bench after new signing Raya broke into the team and has started just once since mid-September – a Carabao Cup win at Brentford.

Ramsdale earned his fourth cap for England’s senior team in the 3-1 friendly win over Scotland last month, but was an unused substitute in recent wins against Australia and Italy.

Arteta stays with Raya

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya is expected to join Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in goal for Tuesday night’s Champions League game against Sevilla.

The Gunners lost 2-1 to Lens in their final Group B game as Raya was preferred over last season’s first-choice goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale in recent weeks.

However, the Spaniard was to blame for Mykhailo Mudryk’s goal 2-2 draw on Saturday at Chelsea and there were questions about whether he would get the gloves for tonight’s game.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said: “I didn’t see that at all (Raya has problems).

“That’s the pressure of playing at big clubs where you have to win and give your best and have someone by your side who pushes you every day.

“That is the debate. That’s also the beauty of the game. The fact that you have other options will make this conversation more common.”

Arsenal stun Chelsea to take the point amid chaos of goalkeeper howlers

Arsenal surprised Chelsea with a stunning late fightback as they came from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Mikel Arteta’s side appeared to be heading for their first defeat of the season when Mykhailo Mudryk’s cross-shot went over David Raya minutes after the break and extended their lead through Cole Palmer’s first-half penalty.

The visitors were far from playing their best and Mauricio Pochettino’s side, inspired by the increasingly influential Palmer on the right side of the front three, offered good chances for a third successive league win for three quarters of the game.

News about the Sevilla vs. Arsenal team

Sevilla probably only have two injury concerns: reserve goalkeeper Alfonso Pastor and striker Mariano Diaz are struggling with knee and thigh problems respectively.

Arsenal also have relatively few injury concerns, with several key players returning in recent weeks. Jurien Timber continues to be out for extended periods and any rotation is likely to be more tactical than forced.
