The Canadiens’ Heineman returns to the lineup for the game against the Rangers


Forward Emil Heinemann will be in the lineup Saturday night when the Montreal Canadiens Take on the New York Rangers, head coach Martin St. Louis announced during the morning skate.

Heineman was recalled from the American Hockey League on Friday. The 22-year-old has not appeared with the Canadiens since December 22nd after making his season debut on December 21st.

Heineman didn’t score a point in either of his two games with Montreal, but he has six points (two goals and four assists) in 10 games this season with the Laval Rocket.

Meanwhile, St. Louis also announced that blue liner Jonathan Kovacevic will not play on Saturday as the team reverts to a roster of 12 forwards and six defensemen against the Rangers. The 26-year-old has scored seven points (five goals and two assists) in 36 games this season.

The Canadiens (16-17-5) will face the Rangers (26-10-1) in Montreal on Hockey Night in Canada. The action begins at 7:00 p.m. ET on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
