The Islanders place defenseman Adam Pelech on LTIR


The New York Islanders placed the defender Adam Pelekh relies on a long-term injury reserve, the club announced on Saturday morning.

The 29-year-old from Toronto played just 55 seconds in Friday night’s 5-3 win in Ottawa. Pelech was checked behind the Islanders’ net by Ottawa’s Drake Batherson and then clutched his left hand before leaving the ice.

The 1.90 meter tall, 100 kilogram defensive player has recorded three assists in 16 games this season.

Pelech is in the third year of an eight-year contract that pays him an AAV of $5.75 million per season.
