The Jets’ Perfetti says Wilds Hartman admitted to intentionally high-balling him

The fallout from the Jets’ physical home series with the Wild played out into Tuesday, when Winnipeg moved ahead Cole Perfetti revealed that Minnesota Ryan Hartman told him that he had put it up on purpose.

The play in question occurred just 1:51 into the first half of Sunday’s game in St. Paul, Minnesota, which was the second of the two-game series. Perfetti and Hartman lined up in the Wild zone for a seemingly harmless faceoff. As the puck is dropped, Hartman’s stick hits Perfetti in the face.

No penalty was assessed, but on Tuesday the NHL’s player safety department fined the Minnesota forward $4,427.08 – the maximum allowed under the collective bargaining agreement – for the game.

“He said it in a kind of respectful way. No disrespect, nothing against you. What happened to Kaprizov there had to happen,” Perfetti told reporters Tuesday about Hartman’s later admission.

That’s a reference to Wild star forward Kirill Kaprizov, who took two cross-checks from the Jets’ Brenden Dillon in Saturday’s game and had to leave the game. The Russian did not play in the second leg on Sunday and is expected to be out for one to two weeks due to injury.

“Kind of weird to admit,” Perfetti said. “He blatantly said it was because of what happened (Saturday), even though I didn’t even do anything in the play. I had nothing to do with it.”

The first fallout from the Kaprizov injury occurred at puck drop in Sunday’s game, when Jets captain Adam Lowry tackled the Wild’s Pat Maroon. According to Perfetti, Hartman felt there was more that needed to be clarified.

And you don’t have to take Perfetti at his word either. He wore a microphone during the game, so Hartman’s confession was recorded.

“We captured everything. I had a microphone,” Perfetti said. “I don’t know if he noticed or not.”

When asked if he was happy with Hartman’s punishment, Jets head coach Rick Bowness said, “The league knows exactly what happened and why it happened, and that’s how they handled it.” A decision was made by the league met. I wasn’t part of the conversation. You didn’t ask me my opinion on it.”
