10 km world record: Agnes Ngetich becomes the first woman to break the 29-minute mark – Video | Sports


Kenya’s Agnes Ngetich became the first woman to run 10 kilometers in under 29 minutes when she won the Valencia Ibercaja road race.

Ngetich clocked a time of 28:46, beating Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualaw’s world road record by 28 seconds. Her time also beat the track world record of another Ethiopian, Letesenbet Gidey.

After her run, Ngetich said: “I’m so happy.” I didn’t expect this world record. I came to improve my time.
